Vision Ability Zimbabwe works with the Ministry of Health and Child Care and other stakeholders to address avoidable blindness through supporting the provision of affordable, quality eye care services at all levels of care.
There are a number of people who are unable to access eye care services in Zimbabwe. According to the Rapid Assessment of avoidable blindness (2015;2019), the main causes limiting access have been the cost of services, lack of awareness and fear. The aim is to provide comprehensive services that encompass promotion, prevention, curative and rehabilitation interventions. In order to achieve impact and sustainability, VAZ will prioritise working within the primary health system and strengthening the referral system.
