Vision Ability Zimbabwe Recognised Among Top Exhibitors at the 2026 National Disability Expo
Vision Ability Zimbabwe (VAZ) proudly made its debut at the 2026 National Disability Expo, earning national recognition as one of the Top Ten Exhibitors, an achievement that reflects the organisation’s growing leadership in advancing disability inclusion and accessible eye health services in Zimbabwe.
Held from 24–26 June 2026 at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo under the theme, “Embracing Disability Inclusion in All Sectors – A Masterstroke for National Prosperity and Economic Development,” the Expo brought together more than 500 exhibitors from across government, the private sector, academia, and organisations of persons with disabilities.
Throughout the three-day event, the VAZ exhibition stand attracted hundreds of visitors eager to learn more about the organisation’s work across the five initiatives. What began as a visit to an exhibition stand became an opportunity for many to gain valuable knowledge about eye health, available eye care services, and how persons with disabilities can access quality and affordable eye health care. Visitors also expressed heartfelt appreciation for VAZ’s commitment to promoting disability inclusion in development through advancing inclusive education and rehabilitation.
Being recognised as one of the Top Ten Exhibitors was a significant milestone for the organisation, but equally rewarding was the positive feedback received from visitors. Many shared stories of how VAZ’s work has transformed lives and encouraged the team to continue championing disability inclusion across Zimbabwe.
For one VAZ team member, the Expo was also a memorable personal experience. Attending the National Disability Expo for the first time was both inspiring and enlightening. The event provided an opportunity to reconnect with long-standing colleagues in the disability movement, establish new partnerships, and engage with people with disabilities from across the country.
One of the most powerful observations was seeing the diversity and strength of Zimbabwe’s disability sector. Virtually every disability group was represented, demonstrating the richness and inclusiveness of the movement. The Expo also challenged common misconceptions, as many organisations of persons with disabilities were visibly led and managed by persons with disabilities themselves, showcasing authentic leadership and lived experience.
The strong participation of the private sector illustrated the growing commitment to disability inclusion within workplaces and business environments. Tertiary institutions proudly showcased the achievements of students with disabilities, highlighting ongoing efforts to create more inclusive learning environments. Government ministries also demonstrated their commitment to inclusion, with many exhibition stands staffed by employees with disabilities, reinforcing the Government of Zimbabwe’s continued role as one of the country’s largest employers of persons with disabilities.
Reflecting on the experience, the VAZ team described the Expo as both rewarding and motivating. Beyond the recognition received, the event reinforced the importance of collaboration, innovation, and sustained advocacy in building a more inclusive Zimbabwe.
As VAZ looks ahead, the 2026 National Disability Expo has renewed the organisation’s commitment to expanding access to affordable, quality eye health services while promoting disability inclusion in every aspect of society. The team now eagerly anticipates returning to the 2027 National Disability Expo to continue learning, sharing, and advancing the vision of an inclusive Zimbabwe where no one is left behind.
